Excessive Sweating
Excessive sweating — hyperhidrosis — can quietly run your life: dark clothes, layered outfits, constant awareness. A short course of injections can switch it off.
The Treatment
What it is, and why it helps.
There are two kinds of excessive sweating. Focal hyperhidrosis affects specific areas — most often the armpits, hands, feet or face. Generalised hyperhidrosis affects the whole body and usually has an underlying medical cause; when that's treated, the sweating usually stops with it.
For focal hyperhidrosis, the same botulinum toxin known for smoothing wrinkles is remarkably effective: it blocks the nerve impulses that switch sweating on, turning it off exactly where it's injected.
The treatment takes about ten minutes. The needles are extremely fine — most patients tell us it's virtually painless, and some compare it to acupuncture.
